The Diaries of Adam and Eve - Mark Twain

Heritage Press, a small, high-quality printer in Dallas, began a holiday promotional series of classic, single-sitting short books by renowned authors such as Thoreau, Paine, O'Henry, Woolf, Shakespeare and Twain. Each holiday book was assigned to various designers who were loyal patrons of Heritage Press. Our assignment was Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve, a thinly veiled account of Twain's relationship with his wife. As the manuscript was written in the style of a diary, the book design followed that lead. The narrative was broken up by inserts of handwritten entries illuminated by primitive, cut paper artwork depicting the antics of the pair in paradise. Bob Downs, one of the partners of the Press, allowed practically carte blanche to create something really wonderful and timeless, with the potential to be enjoyed on someone's bookshelf long after we're gone. Created more than 15 years ago, it remains one of our all-time favorites.
