Tequila Mockingbird

Brand Development

Tequila Mockingbird is a sound design recording studio that arrived at its namesake with a chance viewing of To Kill a Mockingbird after a night of revelry by the founder. The name stuck. Learning more about the Mockingbird, it was serendipitous—we discovered that the bird repeats what it hears (hence the “mocking” in mockingbird) not unlike the recording process, and it tends to perch at the top of whatever it lights upon, be it a tree, or a high line—both great qualities for an icon that already had equity with the studio's audiences. We embraced the silhouette of the mockingbird and created quarter note feet, right out of musical notation vernacular, and placed him on a high line bar from an implied musical staff. We created a graphic style, based on the bird silhouette, and have him lighting on all things treble clef, from an invented horn, to a microphone cord, to a cello with an inventive string.
